Webster City boys soccer headed back to state with 4-0 win over Clear Lake

The Webster City Lynx boys soccer team returned to action on Wednesday night, as they hosted the Clear Lake Lions for their Class 2A, Substate 2 Final at Lynx Field in Webster City. The Lynx entered with a record of 14-1, while Clear Lake entered at 10-7.

Both sides would trade shots on goal in the early minutes, before Lynx junior Eddy Fuentes got free on a runout in the 15th minute and scored to put Webster City ahead 1-0. The Lynx would continue to pressure on both ends, which culminated in a 2nd goal before halftime from Eduardo Perez off a pretty assist from Eric Calles to put Webster City up 2-0 at halftime.

Defense continued to shine for Webster City in the 2nd half, particularly freshman goalkeeper Edwin Nolasco Ramos, who recorded 5 saves yesterday. The Lynx would add another insurance goal in the 58th minute from Israel Torres to make the score 3-0, before Eric Calles delivered the decisive blow in the 74th minute to give Webster City a 4-0 win and a return trip to the State Tournament.

Webster City advances to next week’s state tournament as the 4th-seed in Class 2A, they’ll take on 5th-seeded Sioux City Bishop Heelan in the first round at Cownie Soccer Park at 1:10 PM on May 29th.
