The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Wednesday Night, as they hosted the Greene County Rams in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Mike Penning Athletic Complex in Jewell. South Hamilton entered with a 1-1 record, while Greene County entered at 0-1.
After a scoreless 1st inning, the Hawks bats would come to life in the 2nd, plating 5 runs in the frame to take a 5-0 lead. Greene County would get a run back in the top of the 3rd to make it 5-1, but the Hawks would get that run back in the 6th to make it 6-1. South Hamilton would add one more run in the 4th to take a 7-1 lead, as starter Prestin Van De Pol locked down the Ram bats to take the 7-1 win.
Van De Pol would pitch the complete game, allowing 1 run off 5 hits and striking out 9 batters. Ryland Ubben and Landon Gruefe would lead the bats with 2 RBI each, as Ubben went 1-fof-4 with a single, while Greufe also went 1-for-4 with a single and a sac fly. Braden Young went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Prestin Van De Pol went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Landon Sogard also added an RBI in a 1-for-3 performance.
South Hamilton returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Perry to take on the Bluejays.
