Roland-Story baseball blanks Perry, 5-0

The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Wednesday night, as they opened their Heart of Iowa Conference schedule by making the trip to Dallas County to take on the Perry Bluejays. Roland-Story entered at 5-1, while Perry entered at 1-2.

Chris Hill’s squad jumped on the Bluejays early, putting up 3 runs in the opening frame to lead 3-0. The Norsemen would add a run in the 3rd, followed by a run in the 5th to take a 5-0 advantage, before letting defense and the pitching of senior Brett Schmitz bring home a 5-0, shutout victory.

Schmitz would pitch the complete game shutout, allowing no runs off 1 hit, striking out 11 batters and walking 4. Freshman right fielder Cooper Triggs added 3 RBI on the night, his 2nd 3 RBI night of the season, going 1-for-3 with a single and a sac fly. Schmitz would also go 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and a single with a run scored.
