South Hamilton boys 4×200 title, Roland-Story girls 4×100 record highlights Day 2 of 2024 State Meet

Day 2 of the 2024 Iowa High School State Track and Field Championships was a prosperous one for the KQ-Radio area, showcasing titles, records and memorable performances.

South Hamilton took home their 2nd title in as many days as they capture the Class 2A 4×200 Title in a school-record time of 1:28.02 with the quartet of Kolby Hodnefield-Reece Ricke-Nick Severseike-Ty Koehnk. KQWC Radio caught up with quartet following their championship run.

The win helped catapult the Hawks into a tie for 2nd in the Class 2A team race with 24 points, the Hawks are tied with Mediapolis for #2 spot, as Underwood holds the lead going into Day 3 of the State Meet. South Hamilton would follow up with the 4×400, entering the top qualifying time for Saturday’s final in a time of 3:18.46 with the team of Koehnk-Ricke-Severseike-Hodnefield.

Roland-Story would make some noise of their own on Friday afternoon, as their 4×100 team of Adalyn Sporleder-Kennedy Petersen-Lauryn Kilstofte-Kam Lande would break the 2A Record in a time of 49.14, to be the top qualifier for Saturday’s final. KQWC Radio caught up with quartet after the race.

The Norsemen scored some redemption following a 2nd place finish in the 4×200, with a time of 1:42.88 with the same quartet as above. Pella Christian took home the title in the 2nd-fastest 4×200 time in the history of Iowa in 1:39.72.

The day started with South Hamilton placing 17th in the 2A Boys Distance Medley, in a time of 3:38.18 with the team of Severseike-Drake-Ricke-Coburn. Webster City’s Adysen Poppen competed in the 3A Girls Shot Put simultaneously, placing 19th with a throw of 34′ 10.5″. Webster City’s boys would compete in the 3A Boys Distance Medley, placing 21st in a time of 3:44.78 with the team of Weinzetl-Hisler-Estlund-Callahan. South Hamilton’s girls would put together a good day at the Blue Oval, beginning with a 9th place finish in the 4×200 in a time of 1:47.08 with the team of Galetich-Doolittle-Erickson-Thompson. The Hawks then placed 13th in the 4×100 in a time of 50.83 with the team of Flaugh-Galetich-Erickson-Thompson, before the Hawks placed 15th in a time of 4:12.08 with the team of Doolittle-Galetich-Thompson-Erickson. KQWC Radio caught up with the Hawks following their 4×400.

Roland-Story also saw their girls 4×400 place 22nd in a time of 4:15.40 with the team of Kilstofte-Motta-Johnson-Petersen. Webster City’s girls 4×400 placed 24th in a time of 4:19.78 with the team of Savitski-Tesdahl-Chamness-Grossoehme.

The Norsemen also saw their boys 4×100 run well, placing 14th in a time of 44.01 with the team of Carlson-McIlrath-Berggren-Knoll, while Jayden Strum placed 24th in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:08.51.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows saw both of their state qualifiers compete on Friday, as Mikayla Beisel tied for 18th in the 2A Girls High Jump by clearing 4′ 10″, while Mason Allen placed 13th in the 2A Boys Discus with a throw of 144′ 6″. Webster City’s Jaxon Cherry would place 10th in the 3A Boys Shot Put with a throw of 52′ 2″, while Grace Neuberger would also compete in the 2A Girls High Jump, placing 20th by clearing 4′ 10″.

Action restarts on Saturday Morning for the KQRadio area, as Roland-Story and South Hamilton’s girls teams compete in the 2A Sprint Medley at 9:20 AM.
