The Webster City Lynx and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys track teams returned to action on Thursday evening, as they competed in the annual North Central Conference track meet at CGD Middle School in Clarion. The Lynx and Cowboys were joined by fellow NCC members Algona, Clear Lake, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Humboldt, Iowa Falls-Alden and St. Edmond.
Webster City would see a single event winner, which came in the discus as Jaxon Cherry broke his old school-record with a throw of 169′ 5″ to capture the conference crown. Other notable results saw Justin Callahan place 3rd in the 800m run in a season-best time of 2:04.96, while Callahan anchored the distance medley to a 2nd place finish in the distance medley in a time of 3:42.61 with the team of Weinzetl-Hisler-Estlund-Callahan. Jaxon Cherry also placed 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 48′ even, while Jayden Weinzetl also placed 2nd in the 200m dash in a time of 23.25 seconds.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows top event placer would be freshman Huxley Lingenfelter, who placed 8th in the discus with a throw of 123′ 8″. The Cowboys 4×200 would also place 8th in a time of 1:41.59 with the team of Boots-Lindaman-Sweeney-Lingenfelter, while the 4×100 placed 7th in 49.47 with the team of Boots-Lindaman-Lingenfelter-Allen.
Another notable and historic performance came from Iowa Falls-Alden senior Jaden Damiano, who set a new Iowa all-time best in the 110m High Hurdles, winning in a time of 13.68 seconds. That time broke the record set by Jack Lathan of Spirit Lake at the 2022 State Track meet of 13.74 seconds.
Webster City would place 5th in the meet with 77 points, while Clarion-Goldfield-Dows placed 8th with 8 points. Algona was the team champion with 150 points.
Webster City boys track returns to action on Thursday for their State Qualifying Meet at Clear Lake, while Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns on Thursday for their State Qualifying Meet at Dike-New Hartford.
