The Webster City Lynx girls tennis team returned to action on Wednesday morning, as they made the short trip over to Fort Dodge to compete in the annual North Central Conference tournament at Dodger Courts. The Lynx were joined by the hosts St. Edmond, as well as Clear Lake, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Iowa Falls-Alden and associate members Nevada.
The Lynx would finish 2nd in the tournament behind conference champions St. Edmond. Their top performers were the doubles team of Alivia Burns and Allie Severe, as they defeated Nevada’s Brooklyn Estes and Allie Dittmer in extra sets, 9-8. Burns and Severe would then defeat St. Edmond’s Ava Andrew and Cambree Lunn 8-6 to advance to the finals, before falling 8-0 to Iowa Falls-Alden’s conference champion duo of Aubrey Johnson and Joslin Johnson.
Cyra Christensen would be the top placing individual for the Lynx, placing 6th by going 2-2 on the day. Christensen defeated Clear Lake’s Paityn Enke 8-5 before taking down Nevada’s Grace Hensley’s 9-7 to move on to the semifinals. Christensen would fall to Nevada’s Kaitlyn McGaffin 8-2 in the semis, before falling to McGaffin again in the 5th place match to finish 6th.
Webster City tennis returns to action on Monday, when they travel to Waterloo to compete in their Class 1A, Region 5 Tournament.
