The Webster City Lynx boys soccer team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip west into Humboldt County to take on long-time rivals Humboldt at the Humboldt Soccer Field. Webster City entered at 8-0 and ranked #4 in Class 2A, while Humboldt entered at 7-0.
It would be Webster City that got off to the fast start, as leading scorer Eddy Fuentes fired the first shot with a goal in the 6th minute off an Israel Torres assist to put the Lynx up 1-0. Webster City would strike again in the 33rd minute, as Israel Torres assisted on his 2nd goal to David Villelas to put the Lynx up 2-0.
Humboldt answered back with a free kick in the 39th minute to make it 2-1 at halftime. Defenses would rule the second half, as the Lynx back line held serve with freshman goalie Edwin Ramos only having to make 4 saves as Webster City picked up their first road win at Humboldt since 2019.
Webster City took sole possession of first place with the win and remained undefeated at 9-0. Lynx return to action on Monday, when they travel to Hampton-Dumont-CAL to face the Bulldogs at 5:30 PM.
