The Webster City Lynx and Roland-Story Norsemen boys track teams returned to action on Thursday afternoon, as they made the trip to Des Moines to compete in the Saydel Invitational at Saydel High School. The Lynx and Norsemen were joined by the host Eagles, as well as Ballard, Bondurant-Farrar, Des Moines Christian, Des Moines East, Gilbert, Greene County, Madrid, Nevada, Newton, North Polk, Oskaloosa, PCM and Pleasantville.
Webster City would pick up three event wins on Thursday, the first two coming courtesy of Jaxon Cherry in field events. Cherry would win the discus with a throw of 147′ 2.5″, before winning the shot put with a throw of 50′ 10″. Justin Callahan would then win the 400m hurdles in a time of 58.43, in just the 2nd time Callahan had ever run the event. The Lynx would also place 2nd in the sprint medley in a time of 1:40.92 with the team of Griffith-Estlund-Weinzetl-Callahan, while placing 3rd in the distance medley in a time of 3:48.62 with the team of Hrnicek-Hisler-Estlund-Callahan. Keegan Hisler would also place 2nd in the high jump, clearing a season-best 6′ even.
Roland-Story would not pickup an event win on Thursday, as their top placer would be Evan Voga in the 3200m run, as he placed 3rd in a time of 10:46.03. Voga would place 8th in the 1600m run in 5:02.36, while Corbin Lucchesi would be 7th in 5:01.63. The Norsemen would place 4th in a highly-competitive 4×100 relay, in a time of 45.15. Jake Berggren would place 6th in the 110m High Hurdles in a time of 16.47, while the Norsemen placed 3rd in the shuttle hurdle relay in a time of 1:05.95.
Webster City would place 5th with 65 points, while Roland-Story was 9th with 38 points. North Polk was the meet champion with 105.5 points, beating runner-up Madrid by a .5 point.
Webster City boys track returns to action Tuesday, when they host the Lynx Relays at Webster City High School. Roland-Story boys track returns to action on Monday when they compete in the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Invitational.
