The South Hamilton Hawks track and field teams returned to action on Tuesday afternoon, as they made the trip south into Madison County to compete in the Earlham Co-Ed Invitational at Earlham High School. The Hawks were joined by the host Cardinals, as well as AC/GC, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Des Moines Christian, Gilbert, Grand View Christian, Nodaway Valley, North Polk, Panorama, Van Meter and West Central Valley.
South Hamilton’s boys would see a number of winners on Tuesday night, the first coming from the sprint medley, which won in a time of 1:35.40 with the team of Severseike-Drake-Hodnefield-Koehnk. Kolby Hodnefield would follow up with a win in the 100m dash in a time of 11.34, before a loaded 4×200 took home gold with a time of 1:30.78 with the team of Hodnefield-Severseike-Ricke-Koehnk. The Hawks final win came in the 4×100 in a time of 44.03 seconds with the team of Hodnefield-Severseike-Drake-Koehnk. Other notable results included a 2nd place finish for Ty Koehnk in the 800m run in a time of 2:09.01, while Jonathan Drake placed 2nd in the 400m dash in a time of 53.65. The boys 4×400 also placed 2nd in a time of 3:38.93 with the team of Severseike-Ricke-Twedt-Gruefe.
For the girls, Daytona Ferrie would be the lone event winner, winning the discus with a throw of 104′ 8″. Kendra Hoversten would be 3rd with a throw of 99′ 2″. Isabel Swenson would place 2nd in the high jump by clearing 4′ 10″, leaving her tied with Gilbert’s Allie Grandgenett. Grace Neuberger would be 4th in the high jump, clearing 4′ 8″. Ashlyn Erickson would place 3rd in the 400m run in a time of 1:04.60, while Makena Galetich was 4th in 1:06.55.
South Hamilton’s boys would place 3rd in the meet with 101 points, ACGC was the team champion with 157.5 points. South Hamilton’s girls also placed 3rd with 80 points, Gilbert was the team champion with 134 points.
The Hawks track and field teams return to action on Thursday, when they travel to Manson to compete at the Manson-Northwest Webster Invitational.
