Webster City soccer sweeps G/B doubleheader from Clear Lake

The Webster City Lynx soccer teams opened up their 2024 season on the road Thursday night, as they took on the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at Lions Field.

The first half would be a defensive rock fight, with neither side getting many attacks on goal, but just before halftime, senior Jillian Symens snuck a goal in 39th minute to give Webster City a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.

Clear Lake struggled to get clear shots on goal in the 2nd half, as Lynx goalkeeper Joleah Stuhr registered 7 saves on the night, as the Lynx would hold the Lions 0ff the scoreboard for a 1-0 victory. The win was Webster City’s first win over Clear Lake since 2015.

The boys game followed, as Webster City’s boys used a first half onslaught to set the tone. Eddy Fuentes would record a first half hat-trick with goals in the 6th minute, 19th minute and 21st minute to put the Lynx up 3-0. It was then Eduardo Perez’s turn to contribute, as he added goals in the 31st minute and right before halftime to put Webster City up 5-0 at the halftime break.

Clear Lake would get on the board in the 2nd half with a goal from Andrew Korenberg, but the Lynx defense held serve to start the year with a 5-1 victory.

Webster City soccer returns to action on Monday, when the boys host Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, while the girls travel to Garner-Hayfield-Ventura.
