The Roland-Story Norsemen track teams opened their 2024 outdoor seasons on Thursday evening, as they hosted an early-bird track meet at the newly-renovated Dallas Kray Track in Story City. The Norsemen were joined by Gilbert, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, North Polk, PCM and Southeast Valley.
Roland-Story’s girls picked up numerous gold medals in the meet, the first coming in the sprint medley, with the Norsemen winning in a time of 1:51.56 with the team of Sporleder-Kilstofte-Petersen-Lande. The time currently sits at #7 in Iowa all-classes. This was followed up with Claire Truesdell winning the 3000m run in a time of 11:35.16. Selah Helgeson would take home gold in the 100m hurdles in a time of 16.86, before the Norsemen’s 4×200 set the track ablaze with a win in a time of 1:46.80 with the team of Sporleder-Petersen-Kilstofte-Lande, good for the 4th fastest time in Iowa so far in 2024. Roland-Story’s final gold medal was in the 4×100, winning in a time of 51.86 with the team of Sporleder-Petersen-Kilstofte-Lande. Other notable results saw the 4×400 finish 2nd in a time of 4:21.55 with Sporleder-Kilstofte-Petersen-Lande. Claire Truesdell would also place 2nd in the 1500m run in a time of 5:34.50, while Matilde Motta was 2nd in the high jump at 4′ 8″.
The Roland-Story boys saw just a couple of winners on Thursday night, the first coming from the shuttle hurdle relay, with the Norsemen winning in 1:05.61 with the team of Long-Berggren-Barber-Strum. Sam Knoll would grab the Norsemen’s lone individual win in the 200m dash in a time of 23.59. Cody Long would place 2nd in the long jump with a mark of 19′ 11.25″, while Roland Yates finished 2nd in the discus with a throw of 130′ 2″. Jayden Strum placed 2nd in the 110m high hurdles in a time of 16.15, while the 4×200 was 2nd in a mark of 1:34.86 with the team of Carlson-Mazyck-Berggren-McIlrath.
The Roland-Story girls placed 3rd with 88 points, while the Roland-Story boys placed 3rd with 77 points. Full results can be found online at aatiming.com.
