The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys basketball team returned to action on Monday night, as they made the drive east on Highway 20 to take on the Wolverines of Dike-New Hartford in Class 2A, District 12 action at Dike-New Hartford High School. The Cowboys entered at 6-14, while the Wolverines entered at 11-11.
CGD would be up to the challenge as the underdog early, leading the third-seeded Wolverines 11-9 after the first, but DNH was able to take a 4-point halftime lead at 27-23. The Cowboys would claw back into the lead in the 3rd quarter to take a 35-32 lead going into the 4th. Both teams traded blows in the 4th quarter, with the game tied at 44-44 with 10 seconds to go, when Wolverines guard Colin Meester made a contested layup as time expired to give Dike-New Hartford a 46-44 win.
Dike-New Hartford advances to face long-time rivals Aplington-Parkersburg in the Class 2A, District 12 semifinal. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows season ends with a record of 6-15.
