The South Hamilton Hawks wrestling team returned to action on Saturday, as they hosted their Class 1A, District 10 Tournament at South Hamilton High School in Jewell. The Hawks were joined by AGWSR, Alburnett, Belle Plaine, Columbus Catholic, Earlham, HLV, Iowa Valley, North Butler-Clarksville and North Tama.
South Hamilton would not send anyone to Wednesday’s state tournament, as the Hawks saw three, 3rd-place finishers on the day. Keyton Remsburg placed 3rd at 157, pinning AGWSR’s Collin Willems in the first round, before losing to Iowa Valley’s Nolan Kriegel via fall in the semifinals. Remsburg would win his consolation semifinal over Belle Plaine’s Andrew Argo via fall, and his 3rd-place match to Carter Weisskopf of HLV via fall to place 3rd, but would not get to wrestle for 2nd.
Jonathan O’Neal would place 3rd at 165, pinning North Butler-Clarksville’s Alex Bacon in the first round, before losing via pin to Alburnett’s Hunter Sauer in the semifinal. O’Neal would pin HLV’s Max Henstorf and Iowa Valley’s Ian Smith to place 3rd, but would not get to wrestle back for 2nd. Graham Peters would also place 3rd at 190, winning his first match against Earlham’s Ty Willem via fall, before losing by fall to North Butler-Clarksville’s MaKade Bloker. Peters would beat AGWSR’s Clayton VanLoh by pin, before beating Ty Willem of Earlham a second time to win 3rd, but Peters lost his 2nd-place match to Iowa Valley’s Taite Peach to just miss the state tournament.
The Hawks would place 8th in the tournament with 56 points, Alburnett was the team champion with 230 points.
