The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls basketball team returned to action on Saturday as they made the short trip into Hancock County to take on the Cardinals of Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in Class 3A, Region 2 action at GHV High School in Garner. The Cowgirls entered with a record of 3-17, while the Cardinals entered at 9-12.
Offenses ruled to start the game, with GHV leading 20-18 after the first quarter, but the Cardinals defense clamped down in the 2nd quarter, to take a 38-24 halftime lead. CGD would respond in the 3rd quarter, holding the Cardinals to 6 points to claw back to a 44-40 deficit head into the 4th quarter. Both sides traded blows in the 4th quarter, but it was GHV that was left standing in the end with a 63-57 victory.
CGD was led by Indy Johnson with a game-high 20 points, with 6 three-pointers, while Elliot Ennis had 18 points and 12 rebounds. GHV was led by Isabelle Schisel with 15 points. CGD’s season concludes at 3-18.
