The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the short drive east on Highway 20, to take on the Cadets of Iowa Falls-Alden in North Central Conference action at Iowa Falls-Alden High School. The Lynx girls entered at 1-18, while the Lynx boys entered at 5-12.
Webster City’s girls would face a stiff test against a rock solid Iowa Falls-Alden team, but hung tough in the first half, trailing 14-8 after the first quarter, and 31-19 at halftime. However, the flood gates opened in the 3rd quarter for the Cadets offense, putting up 27 points in the frame, which helped IF-A sail to a 75-52 win. Ella Sharar had a school-record 42 points for Iowa Falls-Alden in the win, Olivia Gallentine led Webster City with 17 points on the night.
The boys game followed with the Lynx looking to bounce back following a Monday night loss to Newton, and got off to a great start, leading 19-16 after the first quarter, and holding that 3-point advantage going into halftime at 30-27. Iowa Falls-Alden would stay in the game thanks to the 3-ball, as they took a 45-42 lead going into the 4th quarter, which saw the game come down to the final moments. In those final moments, Webster City junior Cole Miller would hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 4 seconds left as Webster City would pick up a 54-53 win. Jace Larson would lead the Lynx with 18 points and was a perfect 9-for-9 from the field, while Briar Klaver had 17 points.
Webster City girls return to action on Thursday when they host Perry in non-conference action, while the boys return to action on Friday when they host #1 Clear Lake in North Central Conference action.
