Webster City basketball swept in home non-con doubleheader by Newton

The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Newton Cardinals from the Little Hawkeye Conference in non-conference action at Webster City High School. The Lynx girls entered at 1-17, while the Lynx boys entered at 5-11.

It was a promising start for the Lynx girls on Monday, as they trailed just 10-8 after the first quarter, but the Cardinals were able to gain a little separation by halftime, leading 26-21. The Newton defense would clamp down in the 2nd half, holding the Lynx to just 18 points as the Cardinals claimed a 55-39 road win.

The Lynx boys would follow looking to continue their streak of good play, and played well to start, trailing just 11-8 after the first quarter, cutting the deficit to 2 points at halftime, trailing 23-21. Webster City stayed within arms reach after the 3rd quarter, trailing just 36-34, but it was Newton that was able to close out the win with the final of 54-47.

Webster City basketball returns to action on Tuesday, as they travel to Iowa Falls-Alden to take on the Cadets in North Central Conference action.
