The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted their longtime rivals in the Humboldt Wildcats in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. The Lynx girls entered at 1-16, while the Lynx boys entered at 4-10.
Humboldt’s girls would get out to a dominating start, putting up 32 points in the opening frame to lead the Lynx 32-13 after the first quarter. Things didn’t slow down in the 2nd quarter for the Wildcats, putting another 21 points on the board to lead 53-16 at halftime. The second half would then be controlled by the Humboldt reserves as the Wildcats came away with a 68-31 victory. The boys game followed with Webster City looking to build on their 3-game conference winning streak against a high-powered Humboldt team, and fought tooth and nail early, trailing just 19-15 after the first quarter. Humboldt would pick it up on the defensive end in the 2nd quarter, holding the Lynx to just 9 points in the frame to take a 38-23 halftime lead. However, the Webster City defense dialed up the intensity in the 2nd half, which included a late rally to try and tie the game. Ultimately, the comeback fell short as Humboldt held on for a 58-53 win. Braden Doering led the Lynx with 18 points, while Elliot Carlson had 15 points for Humboldt.
Webster City’s boys would follow this up with a Saturday afternoon win over Iowa Falls-Alden by the final of 55-32.
