The South Hamilton Hawks basketball team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the drive into Jasper County to take on the PCM Mustangs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at PCM High School in Monroe. The Hawk girls entered at 12-6, while the Hawk boys entered at 15-2.
South Hamilton’s girls would come out strong on Friday night, putting up 20 points in the opening frame to lead 20-15. PCM would battle back to bring the game to a single possession at halftime, with the score 31-29 South Hamilton. The Hawks offense would build a slightly bigger lead by the end of the 3rd quarter, before fending off a late PCM rally to capture a 59-55 win. Ashlyn Erickson had a team-high 19 points for the Hawks, while Tanna Thompson had 15 points. Addison Steenhoek had a game-high 25 points for PCM.
The boys game followed with the Hawks looking to bounce back from their loss to Nevada on Tuesday, bolting to an early 17-11 lead after the first quarter, but only slightly decreased to 29-24 at halftime. PCM was able to cut the deficit to two at 39-37 after the 3rd quarter, before South Hamilton salted it away late for a 55-49 win.
South Hamilton basketball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host longtime rival Roland-Story at South Hamilton High School at Jewell at 6 PM.
