The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they made the drive north to take on the Bison of North Iowa in Top of Iowa West action at North Iowa High School in Buffalo Center. The Eagle girls entered at 0-18, while the Eagle boys entered at 8-9.
North Iowa was able to jump out to an early 18-10 lead in the girls game, which was extended to 32-16 by halftime. The Eagle Grove offense would become more consistent in the 2nd half, but the margin was too much to overcome as the Bison would hold on for a 50-39 win. Nadia Kaiser led the Eagles with 14 points, while Chloe Steil added 8 points, Ashlyn Bechler led North Iowa with 20 points.
Eagle Grove’s boys followed, looking to get their offense back on track after losing 4 out of their last 5, as they got off to a promising start, leading 18-12 after the first quarter. The Eagles kept their pace in the 2nd quarter, leading 33-22 at halftime, before offenses took over the 3rd quarter, as Eagle Grove outscored North Iowa 27-20 to lead 60-42. Eagle Grove would close it out in the 4th for a 75-61 win. Drake Canavan led the Eagles with 22 points, while Jaxon Morris had 20 points.
Eagle Grove basketball returns to action on Monday, when they travel to Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines to take on Wright County rival Clarion-Goldfield-Dows at 6:15 PM.
