The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Bulldogs of Hampton-Dumont-CAL in North Central Conference action at CGD High School in Clarion. The Cowgirls entered with a record of 2-14, while the Cowboys entered at 3-12.
HD-CAL would hit the ground running on Friday night, with the girls up 11-6 after the first quarter, which was ballooned to 33-11 at halftime, thanks to an offensive explosion in the 2nd quarter. The Cowgirls offense picked up the pace in the 2nd half, but by then, it was too little, too late as Hampton-Dumont-CAL clinched a 58-37 win. Jordan Valley led the Bulldogs with 16 points on the night.
CGD’s boys would look to steal another conference win against a struggling Bulldog team on Friday, and their defense was ready to carry them to it. The Cowboys led 8-5 after the first quarter, and kept a one-possession lead at halftime with a 24-22 advantage. CGD kept the Bulldogs at bay in the 3rd quarter, leading 33-30 going into the 4th, but HD-CAL was able to make a handful more plays down the stretch for a 49-47 win. Chaz Lane led the Cowboys with 10 points and 6 rebounds, as Scott Harr led HD-CAL with 21 points and 17 rebounds.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows would the face Belmond-Klemme in a doubleheader on Saturday, the girls would fall 78-46 as B-K junior Quinn Gabrielson exploded for 34 points in the win. CGD’s boys would capture a 67-53 win, as Carson Nesheim led the Cowboys with 14 points, while Cahz Lane added 13 points and 9 rebounds.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball returns to action on Monday night, when they face Wright County rival Eagle Grove in non-conference action at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines at 6:15 PM.
