The Webster City Lynx wrestling team made the trip west on Highway 20 into the Sioux City metro, to compete in the Class 2A Regional Duals at Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School in Sergeant Bluff. The Lynx would face off with the Glenwood Rams in the first round, with the winner advancing to face the host Warriors from SB-L.
Webster City’s match with Glenwood started at 120 pounds, as each sided traded wins in the first 4 matches, with Vinny Mayberry and Matt Beem picking up pins for Glenwood, while Carson Doolitle and Adrian Phetxoumphone picked up a pin and decision to make the score 12-9 Glenwood. Doolittle’s win would also be the 150th in his storied career. The Lynx then reeled off 3 straight wins with a Gavin Wynkoop 9-3 decision at 144, a Blake Berninghaus 11-4 decision at 150, and a Tristan Mason 5-2 decision at 157, to take an 18-12 lead.
Glenwood would knot things back up with a Kellan Scott pin at 165, before Luke Estlund put Webster City back in front with a pin at 175, with the score at 24-18. The turning point came at 190, with Carson Bertran narrowly missing a pin on Drake Buthe in the 2nd period, as Buthe recovered to pin Bertran at 190 to make it 24-24. Glenwood would then reel off 3 straight wins at 215, 285 and 106 to mathematically clinch the dual. Linden Phetxoumphone capped the night with a pin at 113 to make the final 39-30.
Webster City wrestling returns to action next Tuesday, when they travel to Woodward to take on Woodward-Granger and Greene County in a tri-dual at Woodward-Granger High School.
