The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Bulldogs of Hampton-Dumont-CAL in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. The Lynx girls entered at 1-15, while the Lynx boys entered at 3-10.
Webster City’s girls looked to build off their first win of the year against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, and the Lynx came ready to battle in the first half, trailing just 11-10 after the first quarter, and down 30-28 at halftime. However, the 3rd quarter would be the difference maker, with the Bulldogs outscoring the Lynx 20-7 in the frame to lead 50-35 going into the 4th quarter, as Hampton-Dumont-CAL came away with a 65-50 win. Olivia Gallentine finished with 17 points and 5 assists to lead Webster City.
The Lynx boys followed looking to build off back-to-back conference wins, and did so with defense on Monday, leading 8-6 after the 1st quarter. The Bulldogs would fight back to take a 22-21 halftime lead, and maintained that one point lead at the end of the 3rd quarter at 31-30. The flood gates opened in the 4th quarter for Webster City, as they outscored HD-CAL 17-7 in the frame to claim a 47-38 win. Briar Klaver would finish as the leading scorer with 17 points and 6 rebounds, while Jack Larson finished with 10 points.
Webster City basketball returns to action on Friday, when they host longtime-rival Humboldt at Webster City High School in North Central Conference action.
