The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the West Marshall Trojans in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Roland-Story High School in Story City. The Roland-Story girls entered with a record of 15-1 and ranked #4 in Class 3A, while the Norsemen boys entered with a record of 13-2.
Roland-Story’s girls would get their stiffest in-conference test yet from the Trojans, as the led only 13-6 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Norsemen would outscore West Marshall 17-7 in the 2nd to lead 30-13 at halftime, but the West Marshall offense woke up in the 2nd half in an attempt to rally. However, the Norsemen had the firepower to keep the Trojans at bay in a 63-54 victory. Matilde Motta led the way for Roland-Story with 21 points, and was a rebound and 2 steals short of a triple-double.
The boys game followed as Roland-Story took on a physical West Marshall team that kept it close in the 1st quarter, with the Norsemen only up 14-12 after the first. Roland-Story would clamp down on the defensive end in the 2nd quarter, and take a decisive 33-18 lead at halftime. Roland-Story’s lead would only grow in the 2nd half, as they led 51-30 after the 3rd quarter, but West Marshall would make a late rally that would ultimately fall well-short in a 63-51 win for the Norsemen. Boaz Clark led the Norsemen with 20 points, his 4th-straight game with 20+ points, while Jonovan Wilkinson had 17 points.
