The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams returned to action on Monday night, as they made the drive into Hancock County to take on the Eagles of West Hancock in non-conference action at West Hancock High School in Britt. The Cowgirls entered Monday with a record of 2-12, while the Cowboys entered with a record of 2-11.
West Hancock came out of the gates firing in the girls game on Monday, putting up 28 points in the opening frame to lead 28-10, building their lead to a 44-17 halftime advantage. The gap would only widen in the 2nd half as the Eagles coasted to a 72-35 victory. The KQWC Player of the Game was CGD junior Indy Johnson, who finished with a team-high 11 points, Meara Kudej had a game-high 20 points for West Hancock.
The boys game followed with Jason Berning’s squad trying to find their way back into the win column, and got off on the right foot, leading 18-12 after the first quarter. West Hancock was able to narrow the margin in the 2nd quarter, and trail just 24-20 at the halftime break. In the 2nd half, the Cowboys defense would find a different level, allowing just 9 points the entire second half en route to a 50-29 win for CGD. The KQWC Player of the Game was freshman Chaz Lane, who finished with a game-high 16 points.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball returns to action on Tuesday night, when they host Humboldt in North Central Conference action at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School.
