The Webster City Lynx basketball teams made the trip north into Wright County on Friday night, to take on the Cowboys and Cowgirls of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in North Central Conference action. The Lynx girls entered at 0-15 and the Cowgirls entered at 2-11, the Lynx boys entered at 2-9, while the Cowboys entered at 2-10
Webster City’s girls aimed to grab their first win of the year on Friday, and got out to a good start, leading 11-6 after the first quarter. The Cowgirls responded in the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Lynx 15-11 to cut the score to a 22-21 halftime lead for Webster City. However, the Lynx offense stepped it up in the 2nd half with outputs of 18 and 20 points in the final two quarters to grind out a 60-54 win, their first of the year. Marissa Hedeen led the Lynx with 20 points, while Olivia Gallentine had 14 points and 8 assists. CGD girls stats were not available on Bound as of Monday morning.
The boys game followed with Webster City looking to build off their win over St. Edmond on Tuesday night and did just that, jumping out to a 17-12 lead after the first quarter. CGD limited the Lynx offense more in the 2nd quarter, but Webster City held a 29-23 halftime lead. In the 3rd quarter, the Cowboys would spring to life, outscoring the Lynx 15-5 in the 3rd quarter to take a 38-34 lead. However, Webster City made the buckets down the stretch and shutdown the Cowboys in the 4th quarter to cap a 47-42 win. Briar Klaver led the Lynx with 20 points and 8 rebounds, while Chaz Lane finished with 14 points and 7 rebounds for CGD.
Webster City boys followed up their win on Saturday with an 86-58 loss to (3A) #3 Waverly-Shell Rock on Saturday.
Lynx basketball returns to action on Monday, when they host Hampton-Dumont-CAL in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball returns to action on Monday, when they travel to Britt to take on West Hancock in non-conference action.
