The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip south into the Des Moines metro to take on the Saydel Eagles in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Saydel High School in Des Moines. The Norsemen girls entered at 14-1, while the Norsemen boys entered at 11-2.
Roland-Story’s girls looked to bounce back following their first loss of the season to Dike-New Hartford, an did so emphatically, jumping out to a 22-2 lead after the first quarter. The margin only widened from there, as Roland-Story went into halftime leading 51-5, and ended the 3rd quarter up 60-7. The Norsemen JV would play most of the second half en route to a 71-10 victory. Alyssa Jones led the Norsemen with 13 points, while CJ Thoreson added 12 points.
The Norsemen boys followed, looking to extend their winning streak to 3 in a row, as they pushed out to a 16-11 lead after the first quarter. Saydel would battle much tougher than they did the first time against Roland-Story, as the Norsemen went into halftime only leading 27-23. However, the Roland-Story offense took off in the 2nd half, outscoring the Eagles 40-17 as they took home a 67-40 victory. Boaz Clark had a game-high 23 points, while Jonovan Wilkinson added a triple double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
Roland-Story basketball returns to action on Monday, when they host West Marshall in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Roland-Story High School in Story City.
