The South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the short trek east on Highway 175 to take on the South Hardin Tigers at South Hardin High School in Eldora. The Hawk girls entered at 10-4, while the Hawk boys entered at 12-1.
South Hamilton’s girls looked to continue their winning ways, but the Tigers proved to be a tough challenge as the Hawks and Tigers were knotted at 14-14 after the first. South Hardin’s defense would step up from there, holding the Hawks to 9 points in the 2nd quarter, and 7 points in the 3rd to hold a 42-30 lead. The Hawks offense would get back in gear for the 4th quarter, but South Hardin offense did their share to hold on for a 56-46 win. Stats were not available on Bound as of Friday morning.
The boys followed looking to continue their stellar season with their long-time rivals, as the Hawks managed to open up a 19-14 lead after the first quarter. Defenses ruled the 2nd quarter as the Hawks went into halftime with a 29-20 lead. South Hardin began to make a beachhead in the 3rd quarter, trailing just 44-38 after the 3rd, but clutch baskets down the stretch from Ryland Ubben, and stiff defense allowed the Hawks to pull away for a 63-46 win. Ubben had a game-high 25 points, while Ty Koehnk added 12 points.
South Hamilton basketball returns to action on Friday night, when they travel to State Center to take on West Marshall in Heart of Iowa Conference action. The games can be heard on 95.7 KQWC or kqradio.com.
