The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams made the trip east on Thursday night, to take on the Wolverines of Dike-New Hartford in non-conference action at Dike-New Hartford High School. The Roland-Story girls entered at 14-0 and ranked #4 in Class 3A, while the Roland-Story boys entered at 11-2.
Roland-Story’s girls faced a daunting test against the top-ranked and undefeated Wolverines out of Class 2A, and while the Norsemen hung tough for the opening quarter, the Wolverines gained separation in the 2nd quarter, outscoring Roland-Story 22-7 in the frame to lead 31-11 at halftime. The Norsemen would settle down in the 2nd half, but the Wolverines offense proved to be too much in the 57-33 win. Matilde Motta led the Norsemen with 15 points, while Payton and Jaydn Petersen each had 19 points for the Wolverines.
The boys game followed with the Norsemen receiving a good non-conference test from Dike-New Hartford, as the Wolverines came out hot and leading 19-13 after the first quarter. Defenses ruled the 2nd quarter as Dike-New Hartford led 26-22 at halftime, but the Norsemen offense came to life in the 2nd half, behind the hot shooting of Boaz Clark, outscoring the Wolverines 42-26 in the 2nd half to come away with a 64-52 win. Boaz Clark led the Norsemen with 20 points, while Jonovan Wilkinson had 16 points.
Roland-Story basketball returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Des Moines to take on Saydel in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Saydel High School.
