The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the trip into Hancock County to take on the Eagles of West Hancock in Top of Iowa West action at West Hancock High School in Britt. Eagle Grove’s girls entered at 0-15, while Eagle Grove’s boys entered at 7-7.
The girls of purple and gold were still searching for win #1, as West Hancock jumped out to an 16-8 lead after the first quarter, a lead that ballooned to 35-20 at halftime. Eagle Grove would pick things up in the 3rd quarter, cutting the deficit to single digits, before West Hancock pulled away for a 59-39 victory. Mallory Leerar led West Hancock with 25 points, Eagle Grove stats were not available on Bound as of Friday morning.
The boys game followed with the Eagle boys trying to snap a 3-game losing skid, and started the game intent on doing so, leading 20-10 after the 1st quarter. West Hancock would slow the pace down in the 2nd quarter, but the Eagles of purple led 31-19 at halftime. Eagle Grove’s offense would fire right back up in the 2nd half, outscoring West Hancock 37-27 en route to a 68-46 win. Eagle Grove stats were not available on Bound as of Friday morning, Mitchell Smith led West Hancock with 12 points.
Eagle Grove basketball returns to action on Monday, when they travel to Fort Dodge to take on St. Edmond at the Fish Tank at St. Edmond High School.
