The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams returned to action on Thursday night, as they hosted the Algona Bulldogs in North Central Conference action at CGD High School. The Cowgirls entered Thursday at 2-10, while the Cowboys entered with a record of 2-9.
Liz Ennis’s squad would have a tough challenge against a good Algona team, but the Cowgirls came out of the gates firing, leading 12-2 early in the first quarter. Algona would roar back to life and take a 20-15 lead going into the 2nd quarter, as the Cowgirls would keep pace with the Bulldogs despite going into halftime trailing 32-22. Algona then began to widen the margin in the 2nd half, leading 55-37 after 3, before closing out 77-42 win. Stats were not available on Bound as of Friday morning.
The boys game followed with the Cowboys looking to continue building on their young team, as CGD came out with a strong start, leading 16-9 after the first quarter. Algona would climb back into the game in the 2nd quarter, cutting the deficit to 1 at halftime, with the Cowboys up 25-24. Algona would use defense and timely offense in the 2nd half to take the lead at 40-36 after the 3rd quarter, before the Bulldogs offense finally wore down CGD for a 64-51 win. Stats were not available on Bound as of Friday morning.
