The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the drive to Jefferson to take on the Greene County Rams in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Greene County High School. The Norsemen girls entered at 13-0 and ranked #5 in Class 3A, while the boys entered at 10-2.
It was a slow start to the night for the Norsemen girls, who battled through early shooting struggles, but still held a 15-3 lead after the 1st quarter. Roland-Story then turned defense into offense in the 2nd quarter to take a 37-5 halftime lead, before pushing the lead to 56-8 after the 3rd quarter. Roland-Story would ride their JV for the final quarter for a 65-12 win. The KQWC Player of the Game was freshman Riley Johnson, who finished with 12 points and numerous steals on the night, Matilde Motta had a game-high 14 for the Norsemen.
The boys followed and also had some early struggles shooting the ball, but countered that by attacking the basket, holding a 25-10 lead after the 1st quarter. Greene County would settle in and keep pace in the 2nd quarter, but the Norsemen held a 41-24 halftime lead. The shooting then came into the equation in the 3rd quarter, thanks in large part to the play of Boaz Clark, with Roland-Story up 64-36 after the 3rd, before closing out a 79-44 win. The KQWC Player of the Game was senior Boaz Clark, who had a career-high 24 points and 6 three-pointers in the win, Jonovan Wilkinson also had 18 points as well.
Roland-Story basketball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Grundy County to take on Dike-New Hartford in non-conference action.
