The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Lake Mills Bulldogs in Top of Iowa West action at Eagle Grove Elementary School. The Eagle Grove girls entered at 0-14, while the Eagle Grove boys entered at 7-6.
It was an uphill climb for the Eagle girls from the start, with Lake Mills jumping out to a 15-4 lead, which then ballooned to 31-8 at halftime. Eagle Grove’s offense found some rhythm in the 3rd quarter, but the Lake Mills offense did not relent in holding a 45-17 lead after three quarters, which then led to the 56-19 final score. Freshman Cora Sauer led Bulldogs with 18 points on the night, Eagle Grove stats were not available on Bound as of Wednesday morning.
The boys game provided another daunting task for the Eagles, as they faced off with the #6 team in Class 1A. The opening half would be a close one, with Lake Mills only leading 20-18 after the first, a lead which was then extended to 44-35 at halftime. The second half would become a shootout, but the Lake Mills offense found a 3rd and 4th gear, putting up 63 points in the 2nd half en route to a 107-68 win. Drake Canavan led the Eagles with 22 points, scoring his 1000th career point in the game, while Tyreon Franklin had 20 points.
Eagle Grove basketball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Britt to take on the West Hancock in Top of Iowa West action.
