The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip into Cerro Gordo County to take on the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at Clear Lake High School. The Cowgirls entered at 2-9, while the Cowboys entered at 2-8.
CGD would hold their own early on, trailing just 9-4 after the first quarter, but a talented Clear Lake team on the offensive end began to make baskets at a high clip, leading 25-10 at halftime, and 43-20 after the 3rd quarter. Clear Lake then cruised in the 4th quarter for a 56-27 victory. Stats were not available on Bound as of Wednesday morning.
The boys game followed with the Cowboys facing the daunting task of taking on the #1 team in Class 3A, and were put to the test early, trailing 19-5 after the 1st quarter. CGD would settle in during the second quarter, but still trailed 35-16 at halftime. The Clear Lake offense would save their best for the 3rd quarter, putting up 23 in the frame to lead 58-30 after 3, before riding out a 75-46 win. Carson Nesheim finished with a game-high 16 points for the Cowboys, while freshman Chaz Lane finished with 10. Titan Schmitt led Clear Lake with 15 points.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball returns to action on Thursday night, when they host Algona in a North Central Conference makeup game at CGD High School.
