The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they made the drive into Kossuth County to take on the Algona Bulldogs in North Central Conference action at Algona High School. The Lynx girls entered at 0-12, while the Lynx boys entered at 1-7.
Algona would get off to a quick start, leading 20-9 after one, before extending that lead to 36-18 at halftime. The Lynx offense would get going in the 2nd half, but the #10 Bulldogs offense stepped up the pace as well, with the Bulldogs cruising to a 77-40 win. Olivia Gallentine led the Lynx in scoring with 12 points, while Marissa Hedeen and Joleah Stuhr each had 10 points.
The boys game followed and the Lynx would be locked in yet another defensive slugfest with an experienced Algona team. The Lynx defense had a solid start, but the Bulldogs were able to push out to a 14-7 lead after one. Webster City would battle, taking the lead in the 2nd quarter and going into the halftime break tied at 22-22. Webster City’s defense continued to smother Algona in the 3rd quarter, taking a 33-29 lead, but the offense of the Bulldogs would finally break out in the 4th quarter, leading a comeback to win 47-44. Jace Larson led the Lynx with 11 points, while Briar Klaver finished with 10 points.
Webster City’s boys would follow up with a 65-53 loss to Gilbert on Saturday at the Gilbert Tournament.
Lynx basketball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host St. Edmond in North Central Conference play.
