The Roland-Story Norsemen and South Hamilton Hawks wrestling teams returned to action on Friday night, as they competed in the annual Heart of Iowa Conference tournament at PCM High School in Monroe. The Norsemen and Hawks were joined by the host Mustangs as well as Greene County, Nevada, Perry, Saydel and West Marshall.
Roland-Story took home two individual champions on Friday night, the first belonging to Kade Blume at 132 pounds. Blume won his 3rd conference title, pinning Nevada’s Braden Lewis in the first round, then winning by tech fall (19-3) over Perry’s Ben Kusar. Blume then won comfortably in his title match over Saydel’s Kolton Keller in a 9-1 major decision.
Hesston Johnson then won the Norsemen’s 2nd conference title on the night at 175 pounds. Johnson opened the tournament with a pin of Perry’s Jonathan Armenta, before pinning Greene County’s Degan Miller. Johnson then pinned PCM’s Wyatt Wheeler in the championship match to claim the conference crown.
The Norsemen then saw 4 runners-up on Friday night with Caiden Latch at 113, losing by medical forfeit, Logan Powers at 165, losing a 6-3 decision to Greene County’s Brent Dennhardt, Jaxon Kadolph at 215, losing by pin to Perry’s Keegan Snyder and Aaron Peyton at 285, losing by pin to PCM’s Kaden Clark. Roland-Story had a pair of 3rd place finishers with Konnor Blume at 106 and Hayden Eslick at 120, with 4 5th place finishers with Blake Loof at 126, Wyatt Ramus at 138, Anthony Jones at 144 and Isaac Trip at 190. Isaac Hall rounded out the Norsemen placers by finishing 6th at 150.
South Hamilton would see 3 runners-up in the tournament, the first in Braden Young at 150, who lost an 8-5 decision to PCM’s Hewitt Brinegar. Keyton Remsburg would then lose a 7-1 decision in the 157 title match to Greene County’s Gavin Scheuermann, before Graham Peters would lose via pin to Perry’s Kain Kilmer at 190 pounds.
The Hawks got a 3rd place finish from Holden Klein at 126 pounds, a 5th place finish at 165 pounds from Jonathan O’Neal, and a 6th place finish at 215 pounds from Gaige Willis.
Roland-Story would capture the team title with 190.5 points, while South Hamilton would place 7th with 86 points.
Roland-Story and South Hamilton return to action on Tuesday, as they face off in a HOIC tri-dual, along with the Saydel Eagles.
