The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Friday, as they welcomed in the Perry Bluejays in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Roland-Story High School in Story City. The Norsemen girls entered at 12-0 and #5 in Class 3A, while the Norsemen boys entered at 9-1.
As has been the case throughout the season, the Roland-Story girls used a dominant start to race out to a 26-2 lead after the first quarter, a leads that was extended to 43-6 at halftime. Reserves got much of the run in the 2nd half as the Norsemen cruised to a 71-11 win. Emma Truesdell was the leading scorer for the Norsemen with 12 points, while Matilde Motta had 11.
The boys game followed as Perry looked to give Roland-Story fits as they had in their first matchup in December, however, the Norsemen had other plans, taking a 24-11 after the first quarter. The Norsemen offense continued to score at a higher-level in the 2nd quarter, leading 41-23 at halftime, before pushing their lead out to 62-35 after the 3rd quarter. The Norsemen then grinded out the rest of the game with the reserves en route to a 76-49 win. Jonovan Wilkinson finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists, while Tristan Anderson had a double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds. Perry’s Owen Myers finished with a game-high 22 points.
Roland-Story’s boys would follow up with a 71-62 loss to Pella at the Gilbert Tournament on Saturday. Jonovan Wilkinson scored 20 points and had 4 assists, while Boaz Clark had 17 points.
The Norsemen return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Jefferson to take on Greene County in Heart of Iowa Conference action.
