The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted their Wright County-rivals in the Broncos of Belmond-Klemme in Top of Iowa West action at Eagle Grove Elementary School. The Eagle girls entered at 0-11, while the Eagle boys entered at 6-4.
The girls game opened with Eagle Grove ready to play against the Broncos, despite trailing 17-8 after one. The Broncos offense would open up more in the 2nd quarter, as they took a 29-15 halftime lead. In the 3rd quarter, Belmond-Klemme turned up the pressure with a full-court press and extended their lead to 41-23 before settling on a 50-33 final score. The KQWC Player of the Game was Eagle Grove senior Nadia Kaiser, who finished with 13 points for the Eagles.
Eagle Grove’s boys followed and after nearly a week-and-a-half off, the Eagles hadn’t missed a beat, putting up 31 points in the opening quarter to lead 31-14. The Eagles offense wouldn’t relent in the 2nd quarter, putting up 27 more points to lead 58-29 at halftime. Eagle Grove’s offense continued their hot scoring into the 2nd half, before backups took the game home as the Eagles took in a 94-50 win. The KQWC Player of the Game was Eagle Grove’s Tyreon Franklin, as the former B-K Bronco had 25 points on the night, and the 94 points Eagle Grove scored were the most scored by the Eagles since an 86-41 win over Clarion-Goldfield on November 30th, 2001.
Eagle Grove basketball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Fort Dodge to take on St. Edmond in non-conference action.
