The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they opened the 2024 portion of their schedule with their long-time NCC rivals in the Humboldt Wildcats. Webster City’s girls entered at 0-10, while Webster City’s boys entered at 1-5.
The Lynx girls faced a tall task, facing the 8th-ranked team in Class 3A, who jumped out to a 29-10 lead after the first quarter. Webster City would keep pace with the Wildcats in the 2nd quarter, outscoring Humboldt 22-21, but still trailed 50-32 at halftime. Defenses slowed action down in the 2nd half, as Humboldt managed to grind out a 77-55 victory. Marissa Hedeen led the Lynx with 13 points with 3, three-pointers, while Alivia Burns had 12 points.
Webster City’s boys also faced a tough task of slowing down a high-powered Humboldt offense, but were tied with the Wildcats at 16-16 after the first quarter. However, the 2nd quarter proved to be a deciding factor, as Humboldt outscored Webster City 25-8 to take a 41-24 halftime lead. The Wildcats would keep a steady pace for the 2nd half en route to a 83-58 victory. Webster City stats were not available on Bound as of Monday morning, Evan Hatcher led Humboldt with 23 points.
Webster City basketball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host Southeast Valley in non-conference action at Webster City High School.
