The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Bison of North Iowa at Eagle Grove Elementary School. The Eagle girls entered at 0-10, while the Eagle boys entered at 5-4.
Eagle Grove’s girls were still in search of their first win on the season and played well in the first half, trailing just 15-12 after the first quarter, but fighting to tie the game at halftime at 18-18. The Eagles would keep pace with the Bison in the 3rd, holding a 1-point lead going into the 4th quarter, but North Iowa found a 2nd gear in the 4th quarter, outscoring Eagle Grove 17-4 in the final frame for a 44-32 win. Nadia Kaiser led Eagle Grove with 12 points, while Ashlyn Bechler led North Iowa with 16 points.
The boys game followed, which saw Eagle Grove try to start their post-holiday break schedule on the right foot, as the Eagles jumped out to a 17-9 lead after the first quarter. North Iowa battled back in the 2nd quarter, only trailing 29-22 going into the halftime break. However, Eagle Grove unleashed an offensive barrage in the 3rd quarter, going for 36 points in the frame to jump out to a 65-35 lead, before cruising to an 80-50 victory. Tyreon Franklin led the way with 22 points and 6 assists, while Josh Miller recorded a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Eagle Grove basketball was slated to return on Monday night against St. Edmond, but that game has been postponed due to forecasted weather. The Eagles return to conference action on Tuesday, when they host Forest City.
