The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they made the drive east on Highway 3 into Franklin County to take on the Bulldogs of Hampton-Dumont-CAL in North Central Conference action. The Cowgirls entered at 1-6, while the Cowboys entered at 2-6.
CGD’s girls would fall to Hampton-Dumont-CAL by a final score of 67-40 on Friday night. Sawyer Morrical led the Cowgirls with 12 points on the night, while sisters Brooklyn and Jordan Valley scored 23 points and 22 points for the Bulldogs, respectively.
The boys game followed with CGD facing off against a talented HD-CAL boys squad, but the Cowboys kept themselves in the game early, trailing only 19-10 after the first quarter. CGD kept pace in the 2nd quarter and maintained just a 9-point deficit at halftime at 37-28. However, the Bulldogs slowly built on the lead in the second half, en route to a 70-47 win. Carson Nesheim led the Cowboys with 11 points, while Scott Harr had a game-high 21 for the Bulldogs.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball returns to action on Tuesday, when they take on Pocahontas Area in Pocahontas.
