The Webster City Lynx wrestling team returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the trip up I-35 to Cerro Gordo County to take on the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at Clear Lake High School.
The match started at 126 lbs, which saw Ridge Berninghaus and Carson Doolittle pick up forfeit wins to give Webster City a 12-0 advantage off the rip. Clear Lake would then rip off 4 straight wins, with Aiden Hippen and Tyler LeFevre picking up pins at 138 and 144, while Carter Perry won a 6-0 decision at 150, and Christian Dunning won a 9-1 major decision at 157 as Clear Lake took a 19-12 lead. Webster City battled back as Isaac Firsching picked up a critical 3rd-period pin at 165 to bring the margin to 19-18, before Luke Estlund gave Webster City the lead with a pin at 175, making the score 24-19. Carson Bertran continued to hot streak, getting a tech fall (19-4) on Dylan Evanson at 190 to make it 29-19, before Clear Lake got back on the board with a Jake Trenary pin of Eli Estlund to make it 29-25.
Landon Griffin returned the favor at 285 for Webster City, pinning Max Orchard in 45 seconds to extend the Lynx lead to 35-25, but Clear Lake answered right back with a John Amos pin of Angel Ramirez at 106 to make it 35-31. But just as quickly, Linden Phetxoumphone picked up a 22-second fall over Hayden Shear at 113, to clinch the dual for Webster City at 41-31. Noah Potter of Clear Lake pinned Brayden Burtnett at 120 to round out the match at 41-37.
Webster City wrestling returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the Don Miller Invitational at Fort Dodge Senior High.
