The Webster City Lynx basketball teams made the trip west on old Highway 20 on Tuesday night, to take on the Gaels of St. Edmond in North Central Conference play in Fort Dodge. Webster City’s girls entered at 0-6, while the boys entered at 0-2.
The Lynx girls would be locked in a tight game early one, with St. Edmond holding a 13-11 lead after the first quarter, before Webster City tied the game up at 22-22 at halftime. However, St. Edmond ratcheted up the defensive intensity in the 2nd half with their full court press, racing out to a 40-26 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter, before securing a 55-41 win. Olivia Gallentine led the Lynx with 11 points, while Joleah Stuhr and Alivia Burns had 6 points each.
Webster City’s boys followed looking to start conference play 1-0, but were locked in a tight battle after the 1st quarter, with St. Edmond leading 13-12. The Gaels defense was able to force turnovers and hit timely 3’s which led to a 34-22 lead for St. Edmond at halftime. The Gaels maintained their advantage in the 3rd quarter to lead 46-33 after 3. However, Webster City didn’t go down without a fight, putting up 23 points in the 4th quarter, but St. Edmond held on for a 64-56 win. Cole Miller led the Lynx with 13 points, while Trevyn Lyons had 10 points.
Webster City basketball returns to action on Friday, when they host Clarion-Goldfield-Dows at Webster City High School.
