The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Saydel Eagles in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Roland-Story High School in Story City. The Norsemen girls entered at 5-0, while the Norsemen boys entered at 4-0.
Roland-Story’s would come out and blow away the Eagles from the word “go”, leading 34-7 after the first quarter, and would only grow the lead to 57-13 at halftime. The 2nd half was much of the same, as Roland-Story continued to grow the lead, up by a margin of 73-15 after the 3rd quarter, before riding out an 89-29 victory. Matilde Motta was the KQWC Player of the Game with a game-high 21 points, while Alyssa Jones finished with 17 for Roland-Story.
The boys game followed, and the Roland-Story boys looked every bit as dominant as their female counterparts, as Brett Schmitz’s hot shooting and tight team defense gave the Norsemen a 22-2 lead after the first quarter. The offense only continued showcase their firepower, holding a 50-11 halftime lead. Saydel would respond in the 3rd quarter and look more like there normal selves, but still trailed 62-30 after the 3rd quarter, as the Norsemen rode out a 68-37 victory. Brett Schmitz was the KQWC Player of the Game with 15 points off 5 three-pointers, while Jonovan Wilkinson had a game-high 20 points.
Roland-Story returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Monroe to take on the PCM Mustangs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at 6 PM.
