The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip west on Highway 20 to take on the Titans of South Central Calhoun in non-conference action in Rockwell City. The Lynx girls entered at 0-4, while the Lynx boys entered at 0-1.
Webster City’s girls found themselves in a hole early, as the Titans came out hot, outscoring the Lynx 23-5 in the opening quarter, pushing the lead to 36-11 at halftime. Webster City found some footing in the 2nd half offensively, but South Central Calhoun would ride out a 66-42 win. Olivia Gallentine and Joleah Stuhr led the Lynx with 9 points each, while Adlen Wheelock had a game-high 11 points for South Central Calhoun.
The boys game followed as for the second game in a row, the Lynx got off to a slow start, trailing 18-7 after the first quarter. Webster City’s offense would get traction in the 2nd and 3rd quarter, but the Lynx still trailed 44-35 after 3 quarters. Webster City’s offense would then fire at a high-level in the 4th quarter with 21 points, but it would fall just short as South Central Calhoun came away with a 60-56 win.
Jace Larson finished with a team-high 27 points for Webster City, while Briar Klaver finished with 14 points, as Gavin Batta finished with a game-high 30 points for South Central Calhoun.
Webster City girls return to action on Friday night, when they host Algona at Webster City High School, while the Webster City boys return to action next Tuesday at St. Edmond.
