Eagle Grove basketball splits doubleheader at Belmond-Klemme

The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip across Wright County to take on the Belmond-Klemme Broncos in Top of Iowa West action at Belmond-Klemme High School. The Eagle girls entered at 0-2, while the Eagle boys entered at 1-1.

Eagle Grove’s girls entered looking for their first win of the year, but Belmond-Klemme’s defense managed to limit Eagle Grove offensively as the Broncos held on for a 42-28 victory. Stats were not available on Bound at the time of release.

The boys game followed with much anticipation on the return of Tyreon Franklin to Belmond, as the Eagles did not disappoint. Offenses were fully on display in the 1st quarter with the Eagles leading 25-18 at the end of the frame. The Eagles offense continued to soar as the defense began to pick up, leading 45-30 at halftime and commanding the game at 65-41 after the 3rd quarter, as Eagle Grove rode out an 80-58 win. Drake Canavan led the way with 22 points, while Jaxon Morris and Tyreon Franklin had 17 each.

Eagle Grove girls return to action Thursday when they take on Central Springs in Manly, while Eagle Grove boys return to action on Friday when they host Bishop Garrigan.
