The Webster City Lynx wrestling team returned to action on Saturday, as they made the trip down to the Des Moines metro to compete in the annual Andy Davidson Invitational at Dallas Center-Grimes High School in Grimes. The Lynx were joined by the host Mustangs, as well as ADM, Carroll, Creston, Des Moines East, Johnston, Lewis Central, Nevada, Oskaloosa, PCM, Urbandale and West Marshall.
Webster City would claim two individual champions on the day, first with Linden Phetxoumphone at 113 lbs. Phetxoumphone picked up a tech fall (16-0) over Creston’s Lane Travis, a 5-1 decision over West Marshall’s Jon Gonzalez and a pin over Urbandale’s Caleb Arroyo en route to his 2nd Andy Davidson Title. Carson Doolittle would also claim a title a 126 lbs, with falls over Creston’s Brodrick Phelps and DCG’s Kellen Wegner, and a tech fall (19-3) over Johnston’s Shandrel Thompson.
Landon Griffin secured Webster City’s lone runner-up spot at 285 lbs, picking up pins over Des Moines East’s Issac Lara-Marquez and Creston’s Max Chapman, before falling in a 3-1 decision to Johnston’s Nick Darling in the championship match. Webster City also had a 3rd place finisher in Carson Bertran at 190 lbs, who fell to Cain Tigges of Urbandale in the semifinals, but won his 3rd place match via forfeit to take bronze.
Other placers for Webster City included Gavin Wynkoop in 7th at 132 lbs, Brayden Burtnett at 8th in 120 lbs and Jayden Weinzetl in 8th at 215 lbs.
Webster City returns to action on Thursday, when they take on Hampton-Dumont-CAL and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in a North Central Conference tri dual at Hampton-Dumont-CAL High School at 6:30 PM.
