The Eagle Grove Eagles wrestling team made the trip into Story County over the weekend, to compete in the annual Gilbert Duals at Gilbert High School. The Eagles were joined by the host Tigers, as well as Iowa Falls-Alden, Southeast Polk’s JV and Southeast Valley.
The Eagles opened up with Southeast Valley, where they would pick up a 48-18 win. Wins on the mat from the Eagles came from Cooper Thacker at 132, Leelan Spencer at 138, Connor Christopher at 144, Hayden Schafer at 150 and Jayden Kreitlow at 175. Reece Demuth, Jesus Baez and Mack Morgan all picked up wins via forfeit.
Iowa Falls-Alden would be up next, as Eagle Grove would fall by a score of 42-33. Trevor Bailey of IF-A opened the match at 215 with a forfeit win, before Eagle Grove’s James Harle picked up a pin over IF-A’s Carter Debates at 285. 106 was a double forfeit, before Dylan Terwilliger pinned Dawson Dennis at 113, followed by a Mack Morgan forfeit win. IF-A picked up three straight wins thanks to a forfeit and 2 falls for Kaden Meyer at 132 and Sam Robinson at 138. Eagle Grove would get back-to-back pins from Connor Christopher at 144 and Hayden Schafer at 150, before IF-A took 3 of the last 4 bouts to claim the match.
Eagle Grove closed the day with a 52-24 loss to Southeast Polk’s JV. Winners included Jayden Kreitlow at 175, Cooper Thacker at 132, Connor Christopher at 144 and Carter Bjorklund at 157.
Eagle Grove returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Nashua for a quad dual against Nashua-Plainfield, Northwood-Kensett and West Fork at 6 PM.
