The Roland-Story Norsemen volleyball team made the long trip into Eastern Iowa on Thursday night, to take on the Knights of Union Community in Class 3A, Region 5 action at Union Community High School in La Porte City. The Norsemen entered with a record of 25-11, while the Knights entered at 36-11 out of the NICL.
Roland-Story and Union came out swinging on Thursday night, each side traded blows before the Knights pulled away midway through the set and picked up a 25-16 win. The 2nd set was much of the same, both sides trading points before the Knights pulled away for a 25-19 win. The Knights got off to a fast start in the 3rd set, leading by as much as 8, before the Norsemen made a late run that would ultimately fall short in a 25-22 loss and 3-0 sweep.
The Player of the Game sponsored by Jewell Market was Roland-Story junior Kam Lande, who had 9 kills and 3 blocks in the match for the Norsemen. Union Community advances to face West Delaware in the Class 3A, Region 5 final on Tuesday, Roland-Story’s season ends at 25-12.
