Eagle Grove football falls in regular season finale to Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, 26-16

The Eagle Grove Eagles football team took the field for the final time in 2023 on Thursday night, as they hosted the Cardinals of Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in non-district action. The Eagles entered at 0-8 on the season, while GHV entered at 1-7.

The first quarter would be scoreless, with both teams trading punts in the frame, before GHV put together a scoring drive, capped off by a 1-yard touchdown run by Mick Formanek to make it 7-0 Cardinals. Eagle Grove would respond on the very next drive, marching the field and capping the drive with a Connor Christopher 20-yard touchdown run to put the Eagles up 8-7 going into the halftime break.

Garner-Hayfield-Ventura would start with the ball in the 2nd half, as Lucas Kral broke a 48-yard run to the Eagle Grove 1, as Kral capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to make it 13-8 GHV. The Cardinals would punch in another touchdown before the end of the 3rd quarter, as Aiden Hawe kept a 4th down play-action for a 2-yard score to make it 20-8 GHV after 3 quarters. Both sides would trade turnover on downs in the 4th quarter, before the Cardinals punched in a key touchdown on a 17-yard run by Lucas Kral to put GHV up 26-8. Eagle Grove would punch in a late touchdown to bring it to the final of 26-16.

Garner-Hayfield-Ventura’s season ends with a record of 2-7, while Eagle Grove’s season ends with a record of 0-9.
