The Webster City Lynx volleyball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Go-Hawks of Waverly-Shell Rock in Class 4A, Region 5 postseason action at Webster City High School. The Lynx entered with a record of 15-19, while the Go-Hawks entered with a record of 15-26 out of the Northeast Iowa Conference.
The first set saw Waverly-Shell Rock jump out to an early 7-2 advantage, but Webster City battled back and would go blow-for-blow with the Go-Hawks, but ultimately fell short as W-SR took the opener 25-22. Webster City responded by settling in during the 2nd set and taking it 25-20. The 3rd set saw Webster City get out of the gates slow, trailing as much as 12-3. However, the Lynx would battle back to take the lead halfway through, but W-SR pulled out the 3rd set 25-22. The 4th set would be a back-and-forth battle the whole way through, but it was the Go-Hawks who would have the final say in the 25-23 win and 3-1 victory.
The Player of the Game was Webster City senior Delainey Bargfrede, who had 17 kills, 17 assists, 3 blocks and 2 aces in her final game in a Lynx uniform. Addy Teshdahl would have 10 kills and 4 aces in her final game, while Olivia Gallentine tallied 9 kills and Ava Peterson tallied 35 assists.
Waverly-Shell Rock advances to face Charles City in a Class 4A, Region 5 semifinal, while Webster City’s season ends at 15-20.
